Fire in Rafina under control

Athens-Grecce.- The fire that broke out at noon on Thursday in low vegetation in Rafina is now in remission. According to the Fire Brigade, strong forces remain on alert to respond to any possible reignitions.
The fire erupted in low vegetation on Marathonos Avenue, at the junction with Arionos Street, in the municipality of Rafina, Attica. It caused damage to houses and vehicles. The Mayor of Spata-Artemida Dimitris Markou, told ANA-MPA that “ houses and cars have been burned.”
Meanwhile, an interministerial coordination meeting on the fire was convened in the afternoon by the Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Yannis Kefalogiannis.
Police carried out 57 rescues of civilians in danger in the area between Rafina and Pikermi. More than 300 people were also safely evacuated, along with 22 animals. It is noted that the evacuation of the settlements Agia Kyriaki, Etos Steko, and Imero Pefko had been ordered via the 112 emergency message.
According to a new update from the Police, traffic on Marathonos Avenue has been fully restored, with only Arionos Street remaining closed.
Finally, on-duty hospitals in Attica were placed on standby.
