Kimberly Guilfoyle Outlines Priorities for U.S. Ambassador Role in Athens During Senate Hearing

WASHINGTON, D.C.: . – During her confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Kimberly Guilfoyle, nominee for U.S. Ambassador to Greece, outlined her priorities and vision for strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States and Greece.

Guilfoyle highlighted her decades of experience in media as a legal analyst and television host, which she said gave her a platform to champion truth, justice, and critical global issues. She noted that her work in public advocacy and politics, including her time as First Lady of San Francisco, provided her with a deep understanding of international relations and the importance of strong alliances.

“If confirmed, I pledge to bring the full measure of this experience to bear in Athens,” she stated. “I am prepared to be a tireless advocate for American interests, a steadfast partner for our Greek allies, and a proud representative of the President and the American people.”

She praised Greece as a pillar of stability in a complex region and emphasized its growing role in NATO, noting that Greece is on track to allocate 5% of its GDP to defense spending — a significant investment in collective security. A large share of that spending, she noted, is directed toward acquiring advanced U.S. defense technologies, including F-35 fighter jets, Apache and Black Hawk helicopters, and modern naval vessels.

Guilfoyle also referred to the joint proposal to co-produce new-generation frigates, underscoring Greece’s long-term commitment to U.S.-Greece defense cooperation. She said these initiatives bolster NATO’s eastern flank and generate significant opportunities for American industry.

On energy, she emphasized the importance of Greece’s Revithoussa LNG terminal and the new floating storage regasification unit, which have helped double U.S. natural gas exports to Greece. She expressed her intention to promote the “vertical corridor” of energy distribution from Greece to Central and Eastern Europe, positioning Greece as a key regional hub.

She also pledged to support Greece’s efforts in expanding electricity interconnections with neighboring countries — including Cyprus, Israel, and Egypt — contributing to regional energy diversification and security.

Economically, Guilfoyle said she would work proactively to boost U.S.-Greece trade and investment, particularly in pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture. She also voiced her intention to encourage Greek investment in the United States, aiming for a balanced and mutually beneficial economic relationship.

Finally, Guilfoyle emphasized the importance of people-to-people ties and the role of the Greek-American and Greek Orthodox communities in deepening cultural and societal bonds. She pledged to champion religious freedom and support the work of Greek cultural and educational institutions.

“If confirmed,” she concluded, “I look forward to being an active and engaged representative of the United States in Greece.”
