California Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis Announces Run for State Treasurer

SAN FRANCISCO:. – California Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis sent out an announcement to supporters of her campaign for California Governor on August 8 that she will now be running for California State Treasurer.
Her statement read: “As a supporter of my campaign for Governor of California, I wanted to write to you first with some news: After careful consideration and reflection, I have made the decision to run instead for State Treasurer in 2026.”
Kounalakis continued to her supporters: “First and foremost, I want to thank you for your support over the past few months. Your generosity and trust in my ability to lead means the world to me – and I’m asking you to stick with me as I set out on this new, exciting path.”
“Traveling our state and meeting with Californians of all walks of life, I am convinced that the best way I can serve our state is as Treasurer,” Kounalakis said. “I will bring a deep commitment to fiscal responsibility, economic opportunity, and strategic investment in our state’s priorities — from affordable housing and clean energy to infrastructure and education.”
“My commitment to fighting for the California Dream will never wane, and it is centered on making it affordable to live in our state,” she noted. “That starts with housing. With nearly 20 years experience in the housing sector, I will apply my skills every day to efficiently leverage every dollar at our disposal to increase housing production. This work is central to the office of the State Treasurer and I am prepared and excited for the challenge.”
“I know this is a big change. But I also know it is the right one. I am incredibly grateful for your trust and energy, and I hope you will join me in this new effort,” Kounalakis concluded.
