Gerapetritis: Greece will insist on the universal application of international law and the inviolability of the borders

Athens, Greece.- “It is positive that there is mobility and visibility for the next steps with a possible meeting of the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia, as well as that the United States intends to support Ukraine’s security guarantees,” Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis said on Sunday in a statement to the newspaper “Apogevmatini”.
“Greece, as a matter of principle, will insist on its basic position for the universal application of international law and the inviolability of the borders of every state,” he emphasized, while noting:
“We are not going to propose short-term political gains over the security architecture that was shaped post-war by international law, participating in a geopolitical auction.”
“If international law is abandoned today in favor of a transactional foreign policy, how, really, will we be able to invoke it as a tool for resolving disputes on major national issues? Foreign policy requires knowledge and deliberation, not shallowness and opportunism,” he concluded.
