Athens and Bethlehem Mayors visit Archbishop Ieronymos

Athens, Greece.- Τhe Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronymos, was visited on Monday by the Mayor of Athens Haris Doukas, and the Mayor of Bethlehem Maher Canawati, accompanied by the Diplomatic Representative of Palestine in Athens Yussef Dorkhom. During the visit, the mayor of Bethlehem described the situation in his city and in Gaza in general.

“For all of us Christians, Bethlehem is a holy place, which we have learnt to refer to with great respect since childhood,” said Archbishop Ieronymos.
Doukas emphasised that Athens and Bethlehem have been sister cities for almost 50 years and also stressed that the current situation is very critical. “That is why the mayor came here, to explain to us the tragedy that is unfolding in Gaza and to help us understand and contribute as much as we can.”

Canawati emphasised, “It is an honour for us to be here, invited by the mayor of Athens. We come from Bethlehem with a message of hope and peace and to tell the people of Greece that we are brothers. The city of Bethlehem is also your city; our traditions, our history, and our church are among the oldest on Earth. And we thank you for your support, for your voice, and for standing with justice, with peace, and with Palestine.”
