Chris Wright: Greece an entry point for US Liquefied Natural Gas

Greece is now the entry point for American LNG and possibly also for domestic energy resources to Europe, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stressed in his speech on Friday, the second day of the Partnership for Transatlantic energy cooperation (P-Tec) which is taking place in Athens.
He expressed optimism about this prospect, referring to the example of Israel, whose economy was transformed after the discoveries of natural gas deposits.
Wright criticized the EU’s energy policy, which focused on renewable sources, resulting in deindustrialization, economic stagnation and high energy prices. However, he welcomed the EU stance after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which led to a gradual ban on imports of energy products from Russia. As he said, the United States is 100 percent an ally in breaking free from dependence on Russia, adding that the artificial intelligence revolution requires energy that will lead to a huge increase in productivity and opportunity.
Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou spoke of shared goals on both sides of the Atlantic: to eliminate Russian natural gas and for Greece to become the natural entry point for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). “We are building, he said, a long-term alliance that will bring peace and prosperity to our region.”
