Rebrain Greece opens pathways for the return of Greeks abroad – Event in New York on December 7

Rebrain Greece, an initiative aimed at bringing back Greeks living abroad, is traveling to New York. On Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the Marriott Marquis New York hotel in Times Square, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security is taking yet another decisive step toward reversing the brain drain. The goal of the ReBrain Greece NY event, in which 35 leading companies operating in Greece will participate, is to connect highly skilled Greek professionals living in the United States and Canada with quality job opportunities in Greece.

The U.S. states and cities with the highest number of participation applications are: New York, Boston, Canada, Washington, California, Florida, Houston, Connecticut, Chicago, Arizona, Missouri, Minnesota, Indiana, and Ohio.

The specialties with the largest number of registrations include engineers, ICT professionals, finance-sector professionals, senior managerial and administrative executives, scientific professionals, software and application designers and analysts, civil engineers, and physicians.

According to senior officials at the Ministry of Labour, Rebrain Greece has evolved into one of the most targeted mechanisms for attracting Greeks from abroad. As they noted, the government’s and the Ministry of Labour’s strategy for repatriation is based on three central pillars: Creating the right conditions, through the abolition of more than 80 taxes, the reduction of social security contributions, the creation of 500,000 new jobs in the last five years, the reduction of unemployment to 8% (a 17-year low), and the safeguarding of political stability. Providing incentives specifically for expatriate Greeks, such as a 50% reduction in income tax for seven years after their return to Greece, and the automatic recognition of medical specialties and sub-specialties for doctors from the U.S.-a measure now also extended to Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand. Showcasing all professional opportunities, incentives, and the new economic climate in Greece through information and networking events that bring interested individuals into direct contact with companies operating in the country.

To date, similar events have been held in Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, London, and Stuttgart, with more than 5,000 interested participants and over 120 business delegations, confirming the strong interest of Greeks abroad. Each event includes a presentation of the Greek labor market by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, answers to all participants’ questions regarding repatriation, and thousands of in-person interviews between participants and representatives of companies operating in Greece.

According to the latest Eurostat data, out of the 660,000 Greeks who left the country between 2010 and 2023, 420,000 have already returned, a fact that, according to ministry officials, highlights Rebrain Greece as one of the most effective tools for reclaiming human capital.
