ΓΙΑ ΤΗΝ ΕΘΝΙΚΗ ΕΠΕΤΕΙΟ της 25ης ΜΑΡΤΙΟΥ 1821

ΚΑΙ ΤΟΝ ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙΣΜΟ ΤΗΣ ΘΕΟΤΟΚΟΥ

Έλληνες και Φιλέλληνες όπου γης,

Την σημερινή ημέρα τιμούμε την μνήμη των Αγωνιστών της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης του 1821. Τιμούμε την αυτοθυσία, το απαράμιλλο θάρρος ενός λαού που ξεσηκώθηκε ενάντια στην τυραννία και αγωνίστηκε ηρωικά στα πεδία των μαχών για την Ελευθερία, την Δημοκρατία, την Εθνική Ανεξαρτησία. Τις αξίες εκείνες που είναι διαχρονικά συνυφασμένες με την Οικουμενικότητα του Ελληνικού Πολιτισμού, αξίες που καθορίζουν την πορεία μας στον χρόνο ως Έλληνες.

Η σημερινή διπλή εορτή, της έναρξης του Αγώνα της Ανεξαρτησίας και του Ευαγγελισμού της Θεοτόκου, υπενθυμίζουν στον λαό μας ότι ο Ελληνισμός και η Ορθοδοξία πορεύονται μαζί, μοιράζοντας το φορτίο της ευθύνης για την συνέχεια του Γένους.

Οι κοινωνικές και οικονομικές εξελίξεις δείχνουν καθαρά πως ο καιρός των τρομακτικών αλλαγών, των προκλήσεων δεν έχει τελειώσει. Η οικονομική κρίση έφερε στην επιφάνεια την κρίση των αξιών και αρχών πάνω στις οποίες βασίστηκε από της σύστασης του το Ελληνικό Κράτος. Γίναμε όλοι, τους τελευταίους μήνες, μάρτυρες μιας βίαιης προσπάθειας γενικής απαξίωσης της χώρας μας, αμαύρωσης της αξιοπιστίας της.

Για όλους τους Έλληνες αλλά περισσότερο για τους Απόδημους, είναι πλέον θέμα τιμής η προστασία της χώρας μας, της ιερής μας κληρονομιάς από κάθε αρνητή της αυθεντικότητάς της. Ομογενείς και Φιλέλληνες στεκόμαστε στο πλευρό της Ελλάδας.

Η αγέρωχη ψυχή, η θυσία των Αγωνιστών του ’21 αποδεικνύουν περίτρανα πως η ελληνική ψυχή δεν φυλακίζεται, μα ζει ελεύθερη. Τα ίδια ιδανικά επιστρατεύουμε και σήμερα για να ανταπεξέλθουμε στις προκλήσεις της νέας εποχής, να εμφυσήσουμε στους νέους μας την ηθική υπερηφάνεια, να τους δώσουμε στόχους και κίνητρα να αξιοποιήσουν την κληρονομιά του πολιτισμού μας μέσα σε μια παγκόσμια κοινωνία που μαστίζεται από την αβεβαιότητα και την ανασφάλεια. Η Ελλάδα του 21ου αιώνα είναι διαφορετική, αλλά παραμένει πάντα το θησαυροφυλάκιο του πνεύματος, της μακραίωνης ένδοξης ιστορίας που χάραξε την πορεία όχι μόνο της Ευρώπης αλλά και ολόκληρης της Ανθρωπότητας.

ΦΟΡΟ ΤΙΜΗΣ ΣΤΟΝ ΑΓΩΝΑ ΤΟΥ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΟΥ ΛΑΟΥ ΓΙΑ ΑΥΤΟΔΙΑΘΕΣΗ ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ ΚΑΙ
ΑΝΕΞΑΡΤΗΣΙΑ

Οι παροικίες της Αιγύπτου, Συρίας, του Λιβάνου και πολλών άλλων ευρωπαϊκών χωρών, ανθούν και συμβάλουν σημαντικά στον ξεσηκωμό των Ελλήνων και στη στήριξη του νέου Ελληνικού Κράτους.
Η Φετινή 25 ΜΑΡΤΗ συμπίπτει με την υπονόμευση της ειρήνης, με την ανθρωπιστική κρίση, με την παραβίαση των Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων, το κλείσιμο των συνόρων, τη μεγάλη διατροφική κρίση και την έξαρση του ρατσισμού, της ξενοφοβίας, του εθνικισμού.

Σήμερα, που τα σύννεφα του πολέμου πυκνώνουν πάνω από την Ευρώπη,  η Ελλάδα και ο Ελληνισμός, η Νεολαία της διασποράς, δεν μπορούν παρά να είναι με τους αγώνες για τις κοινωνικές και πολιτικές αξίες του ανθρωπισμού και της αλληλεγγύης, των δημοκρατικών δικαιωμάτων, υπέρ του διαλόγου μεταξύ των λαών, της αξιοπρέπειας,  για την σταθερότητα, την Ειρήνη στην Ευρώπη και τον κόσμο.

Il 25 marzo 1821 non è solo una data nella storia dell’Ellade ma anche in quella di tutta Europa. Fu infatti in quel giorno che si aprì per tutto il continente la grande stagione delle rivoluzioni popolari, figlie dell’Illumi-nismo e cresciute in un’epoca di oppressioni sociali e di duri imperi, di cui quello ottomano fu il primo a cedere sotto i colpi della libertà.

Oggi come allora, fermi nella nostra memoria e orgogliosi della nostra storia, noi Greci – in circostanze diverse ma con pari dignità – resistiamo non solo per il nostro ma per tutti i popoli d’Europa.

Viva il Venticinque Marzo, viva l’indipendenza reale, viva la libertà.

on the National Anniversary of the 25th of March 1821

and the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Dear Hellenes and Philhellenes,

At the present day we honor the memory of the heroic Fighters of the Greek War of Independence of 1821. We honor the sacrifice, the unparalleled courage of a people who rose up against tyranny and fell heroically in the battlefield for the vision of Freedom, Democracy, National Independence. These values are timeless inherent in the Universality of Hellenic Culture, values that determine our course in time as Hellenes.

Today’s double celebration, the launch of the War of Independence on 25th of March 1821 and the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, remind us that Hellenism and Orthodoxy they walk together, sharing the burden of responsibility for the continuity of our people.

The social and economic developments clearly show that the time of tremendous changes and challenges are not over. The economic crisis has exposed the crisis of values and principles, on which the establishment of the Greek State has relied on. We were all, in recent months, witnessing a violent effort of a general disdain of our country, browning its reliability.

For all Hellenes but more for Expatriates, it is now a matter of honor to protect our country, our sacred heritage of every denier of its authenticity. Omogeneia and Philhellenes stand on the side of the Homeland.

The imperious soul, the sacrifice of the Freedom Fighters of 1821 is the living proof that the Greek soul cannot be imprisoned, but live free. The same ideals we mobilize today in response to the challenges of the new era. We have the duty to instill in our youth the moral pride, to give them goals and motivation to exploit the legacy of our culture in a global society that is plagued by uncertainty and insecurity .

Hellas of the 21st century is different, but still remains the vault of the spirit, its long glorious history that set the course not only of Europe but of the whole of Humanity.

A message from the desk of Supreme President John Galanis Friday, March 25, 2016 Contact: AHEPA Headquarters Phone: (202) 232-6300 Email: ahepa@ahepa.org Greek Independence Day 2016        In 1821, after nearly 400 years of Ottoman oppression, the Greeks bound together under a flag bearing the cross to fight for freedom and justice in the land which gave the world democracy. Like the revolution which took place in America 45 years earlier, Greece would embark on a journey forever linking our two countries in their struggle for freedom and independence.   The Founding Fathers of the United States of America drew upon the ideals and principles forged in ancient Greece in constructing our nation. Thomas Jefferson called ancient Greece “the light which led ourselves out of Gothic darkness.” All who cherish a free and democratic government are beneficiaries of Greece’s legacy and thus should consider themselves Philhellenes.   Throughout history, Greece and the United States have stood shoulder-to-shoulder to face the challenges of an ever-changing world. Greece had been allied with the United States in every major conflict of the 20th century. The strong alliance continues into the 21st century. Greece, via Souda Bay, Crete, and other military capabilities, has contributed significantly to NATO and United States missions, including peacekeeping operations, in the ever-increasingly important region of the world.  Greece continues to do so amid two crippling crises, economic and migratory.  And we can be equally proud how the people of Greece have responded–with care, compassion, and philotimo deemed worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.   In celebration of the 195th anniversary of Greece’s independence, AHEPA family chapters, districts, and our communities, are working together to promote parades across the country, to secure Proclamations from state and local governments, and are organizing flag-raising ceremonies at various State Capitols and City Halls. Indeed, AHEPA members worldwide promote and sustain the celebration of this historic day for all Hellenes.   In closing, I would like to thank President Barack Obama, who will host a White House reception in recognition of Greek Independence Day on April 4, and express our gratitude to the members of Congress who took the time to commemorate Greek Independence Day with speeches on the Senate or House Floors.  In the U.S. Senate, a resolution has been introduced that commemorates Greek Independence by U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) that we expect will pass.  Finally, I also ask Hellenes throughout the Diaspora to take a moment to acknowledge and pay their respects to those who sacrificed which allowed freedom and democracy to take root-once again-in Greece in 1821.  Zhto H Ellas!
