Mitsotakis, Tsipras, Androulakis Speeches to the people

PM Mitsotakis speaking in Rhodes: South Aegean has had highest population growth in Greece

The region of the South Aegean has received over 1 billion euros for development, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Rhodes on Friday.

The tourism industry remained standing during the difficult years of the coronavirus pandemic, he underlined, speaking in Rhodes proper.

Mitsotakis added, “Our country’s image is improving in every location, but particularly here in the South Aegean you are the only region with such a high growth in population.”

Among other issues he addressed were Greece’s defenses, plans to build a radiotherapy center on the island, and the focus of his government on health and education, particularly in training for tourism sector jobs.

“I want to welcome the new collective labor agreement signed with Rhodes hotels,” he said, and reiterated that there can be no development without boosting employees’ incomes.

May 21 elections will restore democracy in ruling power, says Tsipras in Kavala

The Greek people’s vote in the May 21 national elections will restore democracy in ruling power and send Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis home, said SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras on Friday evening.

Referring to the recent wiretapping story at Eleftherias Square in Kavala, northeastern Greece, the main opposition party leader pointed out that in all Western democracies, a leader who violates the constitution and the law loses his seat  or steps down.

Lashing out further against Mitsotakis, Tsipras said that the premier was “tracking nearly half of the country’s politicians from within his office, rivals and enemies, even the Armed Forces leadership. With the help of propaganda, he turned lying and spindoctoring into normalcy.”

But, he insisted, instead of resigning, “Mitsotakis now claims the Greek people’s vote so that he can launder his deviations.”

“You will send him home with your vote on May 21,” Tsipras told his audience, the people will “restore justice, and bring democracy back in ruling power.”

Androulakis: Tax cuts and higher pensions for the disabled carry low fiscal cost

The party’s priority is to support young people and guarantee an inclusive society, PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Nikos Androulakis said in the Athens area on Friday.

At the National Confederation of People with Disabilities offices in Ilioupoli, Androulakis spoke of PASOK’s historical commitment to the movement for the disabled, but said that “unfortunately Greece has a long way to go to reach Western standards in terms of an inclusive society, services, and support.”

He noted that PASOK-KINAL’s program included high tax reductions on incomes of the disabled (over 67%) and a new rise in disability bonuses and disability pensions. “These can be implemented immediately, because their fiscal cost is low,” he said, adding that he agreed with ruling New Democracy proposals that all parties’ policy programs be assessed officially for costs. Submitting such a plan to the Parliament’s Budget Office would help citizens “understand that all of these can be implemented,” he stressed.
