All deputies to speak at censure motion debate; speeches into early morning hours

PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis tabled a four-party censure of motion against the government on Tuesday afternoon, as he had announced earlier.

Speaking in Greek parliament after the action, he said, “We assumed this initiative to put a final end to anything offending the rule of law and, consequently, the proud Greek people.”

The censure was jointly tabled with main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Nea Aristera and Plefsi Eleftherias parties. It will be voted on on Thursday night.

Leader of Plefsi Eleftherias party Zoi Konstantopoulou emphasized on Tuesday that her party “supports and endorses the censure motion against the government, demanding justice, accountability, and an end to impunity.”

All deputies in the Greek parliament (300) signed up to speak during the debate on censure against the government on Tuesday evening, prompting Parliament President Constantine Tassoulas to set out a tight schedule for the coming days.

The motion of censure was tabled by PASOK-KINAL jointly with main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Nea Aristera, and Plefsi Eleftherias.

Tassoulas said that deputies would be speaking on Tuesday night (March 26) until 03:00 on Wednesday, without break.

On Wednesday, debate will begin at 09:00 and continue without break to early on Thursday morning.

On Thursday, debate will begin at 09:00, with the goal being to start the roll-call vote electronically around 20:00-21:00, Tassoulas said.

Before voting, speeches will wrap up with party leaders addressing parliament in reverse order (depending on the number of their party’s seats), concluding with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
