European political leaders must address citizens’ concerns convincingly, former PM Kostas Karamanlis says`

The disruption of the post-war European model of economic development, social welfare and cohesion, insecurity, demographic, immigration, labour were inevitable to cause political consequences, former Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis said in an interview to STAR FORUM ’24.

Karamanlis stressed that European political leaders must restrain themselves and respond to these concerns of citizens who are seeing their lives change to the worse. He noted that elite attitudes are not suitable. People need respect for their values, their traditions and their roots, their patriotism and national identity, the role of the family, their religious beliefs, he said.

Referring to demographics, he described it as a time bomb on the foundations of the nation and therefore the most critical national issue in the years to come.
