Greek Language Day Celebration at Greek Embassy in Washington: Certificates of attainment awarded

The Embassy of Greece in Washington, DC, and the Examination Centre of the Church of St. Catherine held an event for the awarding of Certificates of Attainment in Greek. The event was held at the premises of the Greek community as part of the celebration of Greek Language Day. Students recited poems and read texts.

The Ambassador of Greece in Washington Katerina Nasika, congratulated the students, teachers, and parents and spoke about the importance of teaching the Greek language. The Director of the St. Catherine’s examination center Stavroula Skrepetou, presented the diplomas. The successful candidates who were awarded during the ceremony for the certificates of Attainment in Greek came from the following Greek schools: St. Catherine Greek School (Virginia), Saint George Greek School (Maryland), Saint Sophia Greek School (Washington, D.C.), Potomac Greek School (Washington, D.C.) and School of the Nativity of the Jesus (Virginia)

The Certificate of Attainment in Greek is a governmental qualification certifying knowledge of the Greek language, which is awarded after examinations conducted throughout the world. The examinations are held once a year in May in Greece and at examination centres abroad that are recognised by the Centre for the Greek Language.

In the US, the Certificate of Attainment in Greek is a Seal of Biliteracy for students in New York, Illinois, California, Maryland, Ohio, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina, New Jersey, and the capital city of Washington, DC.
