Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew meets King Charles at Balmoral Castle

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew met with King Charles III on Monday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland in a meeting that lasted one hour, rather than the half hour originally scheduled.
The meeting between the Ecumenical Patriarch and the King Charles was the second since Charles III ascended to the British throne. The first took place in October 2022, while in the past the Ecumenical Patriarch and the then Prince of Wales had met in London.

According to an update from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, King Charles received the Patriarch on an exceptional basis for a private meeting at his summer residence, Balmoral Castle.

The conversation, which had been scheduled to last half an hour, was extended for a further 30 minutes in a “ very warm and friendly atmosphere”, according to the statement.
The particularly warm welcome was also reflected in the Patriarch’s departure, as, according to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the British monarch accompanied him to the castle exit.
