Salamis Shipyards, Naval Group sign agreement related to Swedish FDI frigate construction

Salamis Shipyards and Naval Group signed a new cooperation agreement on Thursday for the shipywards’ participation in the construction of FDI frigates ordered by the Swedish Royal Navy, the Greek company said.

The agreement was signed at the Euronaval 2026 international fair in Paris by Salamis Shipyards President Georgios Koros and on behalf of France’s Naval Group by Chief Procurement Officer Amandine Viala, in the presence of the Group’s CEO Pierre Pierre Éric Pommellet. The agreement foresees the construction of construction blocks for the Swedish FDI programme by Salamis Shipyards, and is a significant extension of the long-term industrial cooperation between the two companies, signalling yet another step in the Salamis Shipyards’ integration in Naval Group’s international production and supply line.It also extends Salamis Shipyards’ participation in the FDI programme, the statement noted, as the Greek company constructs and prefabricates sections of the FDI frigate hulls. Sweden has selected FDI for four new Lulea-class air-defense frigates.

Commenting on the agreement, Dr Koros said, “We began our participation in the FDI programme with the construction of sections for the Greek frigates, we extended our cooperation to the French Navy’s FDIs, and today we are taking the next step, participating in the Swedish frigate programme as well.”

The agreement follows the delivery to the Hellenic Navy of the second FDI frigate, ‘Nearchos’, at the Lorient shipyards in France a few days ago, in the presence of Greek National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin. The third FRI frigate, ‘Formion’, will be delivered to Greece in December 2026.
