Phillip T. Frangos continues vistations into the summer months, preparing for the AHEPA Supreme Convention

 

Supreme President Phillip Frangos was received warmly by the delegates at the District 23 convention in London, Ontario, on Saturday, May 29.  Past Canadian President Nick Aroutzidis, chairman of the host city convention committee, welcomed the Supreme President.  Greetings were also offered by Canandian President Kenneth Matziorinis and District Governor Bill Bakalis.  The well attended banquet featured the newly elected AHEPA and DOP lodges and the awarding of scholarships to outstanding young students.

On June 1, 2015 the Birmingham Chapter welcomed Supreme President Phillip Frangos with a lunch at Gallery and Garden.  PSP Ike Gulas hosted the lunch.  Following the luncheon, the AHEPANs went to City Hall where they met with Birmingham Mayor William Bell.  The Supreme President, assisted by PSP Gulas, presented the Pericles Award to the Mayor for the outstanding leadership he has displayed during term of office and for the extraordinary hospitality extended to the AHEPA by the Mayor and his staff during AHEPA’s participation in the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Selma March.

On June 2, 2015, Supreme President Phillip Frangos met with Atlanta Chapter #1 and Marietta Chapter #519 at PSG Sandy Papadopoulos’ Athens Pizza.  Over 30 AHEPANs and Sons of Pericles members met for dinner, wonderful food, and fraternal conviviality.  Earlier in the day, District Governor Peter Nassos provided the Supreme President an extensive tour of Atlanta that included a visit to the 1996 AHEPA Tribute for the Olympic Games.

Supreme President Phillip Frangos attended the District 14 convention hosted by the Rochester, Minnesota chapter.  Highlights of the convention included presentation of the Pericles award by the SP to Constantine “Gus” Chafulias of Rochester.  The SP and his family have been going to the Mayo Clinic since 1968.  They have seen the honoree turn Rochester from a small town with few amenities other than the Clinic to a major community with first class hotels and restaurants as well as diverse retail establishments and entertainment venues.  Other highlights included the reelection of District Governor Vanover and his entire lodge to another term in office.  PDG Nick Kolas of Rochester was honored with an AHEPA Lifetime Achievement award.
