Regulation for 10% subsidy on food bills to be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday

The subsidy program for household food expenses announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, government spokesman Yiannis Economou said on Sunday.

The program, funded through future tax revenues of excess profits from refineries, provides a 10% rebate on part of a household’s monthly bill for food.

In a statement, Economou said that the measure is addressed to 8.5 million beneficiaries, and called on main opposition SYRIZA to respond whether it will vote for the regulation and Greek citizens’ support or continue to exempt itself from such votes.
