Economou: We will run the full course of our four-year term

Government spokesperson Yiannis Economou, in an interview with ANT1 TV on Wednesday, stated that “when the prime minister decides to declare general elections, he will state it clearly and specifically, as he always does with regard to institutional issues. One week forward or fifteen days back do not change what we have said from the start, which is that the elections will be held at the end of the four-year term and we will fully run the course of this time. Anything from spring onwards cannot, I believe, be considered an early election, especially if someone takes into account that we will have a two-round election in order to reach a stable, concrete and effective government.”
Economou said that the government is continuing its work, the Cabinet is functioning normally and the parliament is passing laws. “Already this week, a very important interior ministry bill on multilateral governance was tabled in a parliament committee. Every day that passes, we are making use of the political time,” he said.
He also remarked that, when the elections come around, people must keep in mind that Greece needs a strong government that can take decisions that concern the future of the country and of each individual person. “It requires a government with pragmatism, knowledge and clear direction to continue the country’s forward course,” Economou added.
