‘Achilles’ Shield’: Greece, Israel to sign €3 billion air defence deal in Tel Aviv on Monday

Greece and Israel are set to sign agreements on Monday in Tel Aviv for the country’s integrated, multi-layered air defence and missile protection system “Achilles’ Shield”, worth € 3 billion.

According to confirmed information, following a report by ‘Kathimerini’, the agreements will be signed between the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments of the Greek Ministry of National Defence and the Israeli Ministry of Defence’s Directorate of International Defence Cooperation (SIBAT), as well as corresponding Israeli defence bodies and defence companies participating in the programme.

The “Achilles’ Shield” programme was approved by Greece’s Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence (KYSEA) on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Defence Minister Nikos Dendias has stated that “the total amount for the anti-aircraft systems is just over € 3 billion.”

As for the timeline, Dendias said that “Achilles’ Shield” will be operational within 35 months from today,” explaining that the timeframe refers to completion of the overall programme, as the system will be delivered in stages.
