US-Greece: Honorary Consulate inaugurated in New Orleans as Gerapetritis highlights city’s historic and strategic significance

The inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of Greece in New Orleans on Monday marked the restoration of an official Greek presence in a city that holds a special place in the history of the Greek community in the United States.

The new Greek consular presence in the city comes at a time when the region is gaining increased importance for modern Greek-US cooperation in the areas of shipping and energy.
Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis highlighted this dual dimension in a recorded video message screened at the inauguration ceremony, stressing the historical as well as strategic significance of the honorary consulate’s operation.

The event was attended by Permanent Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Papadopoulou, Greek Ambassador to the US Antonis Alexandridis and Honorary Consul John Dennis George. Representatives of local authorities and members of the Greek-American community also attended.
