Brooklyn AHEPA Chapter 41 Celebrates 100th Anniversary

BROOKLYN, NY: . – Brooklyn AHEPA 41 hosted its highly anticipated AHEPA Chapter 41 100 Year Celebration on March 28. The evening commenced with a ceremony at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center which included a prayer service and memorial to the Chapter’s deceased Brothers and a presentation to the families of the Chapter’s past Presidents. The event continued with a sold out capacity celebration at Skinos in New York City featuring DJ Savva and Olympia. The Chairmen of the event organizing committee were Chapter past-Presidents Peter Vasilakos and Gus Mallas, Esq. Also in attendance were AHEPA Supreme President Savas Tsivicos, Board of Trustees Chairman Nicholas Karacostas, and Executive Director Basil Mossaidis.

The evening honored the Brothers of the past 100 years while also welcoming the future Brothers who will lead the Chapter’s next century. “There is no better way to honor the efforts and memory of the Brothers who came before us than to open our doors in celebration of our future Brothers. As we thank those who led our Chapter for its first 100 years, we shall also celebrate the next 100 years of our Chapter and the promise of even better things to come,” stated Chapter President John Liodakis.

The event kicked off our community’s Greek Independence Day Parade weekend and was also attended by honored guests the Hellenic Presidential Guard, the Evzones. “AHEPA is founded on the ideals and principles of Hellenism, freedom and civic responsibility. The Evzones are truly a symbol of those values and we are honored as a Chapter to have the Evzones in attendance,” stated Archon and Chapter Board of Governor Peter Vlitas.

Each year since its rebirth in 2009, Brooklyn AHEPA 41 has been a leader in the community having raised and donated over $750,000 to our local churches and community, awarding various educational scholarships, assisting in disaster relief during Superstorm Sandy, coordinating social events and promoting civic responsibility, among other things.
