Mitsotakis: New Democracy submits proposal for constitutional revision – A roadmap for modernization

“In accordance with its commitments, New Democracy is today submitting its proposal for Constitutional Revision to Parliament. This constitutes a roadmap that modernizes public life and the political system, addressing decades-old problems while simultaneously paving the way for the major reforms our country requires as we move forward to the 21st century,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted in a social media post on Tuesday.
“Our proposal includes bold, groundbreaking changes across all fields: from amending the article on ministerial liability to selecting the leadership of the Judiciary with the involvement of the judges themselves. It ranges from safeguarding the nation against any threat of bankruptcy to protecting citizens from the imposition of retroactive taxes, as well as linking the civil servants’ permanent statue to performance evaluations,” Mitsotakis emphasized.
“At the same time, it provides for regulations that are mature within society, such as the option to establish private universities and the expansion of postal voting to all electors. Furthermore, it looks to the future and introduces measures to tackle the climate crisis by reinforcing environmental protection, recognizing affordable housing as a state obligation, and placing Artificial Intelligence at the service of individual and social well-being.
Our objective is that by 2030 – the year marking the bicentennial of the official formation of our state – we will meet the future guided by a modern Constitution. For this reason, I call upon all political forces to submit their positions rather than abstaining, as they are doing today. I also urge every Greek citizen to stay informed about this institutional change, which ultimately impacts the daily lives of us all,” the prime minister concluded in his post.
