Circumstances Before George Mazonakis’ Cardiac Arrest Under Investigation

ATHENS — Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the cardiac arrest suffered by renowned Greek singer George Mazonakis shortly before his death, including what happened while he was at a private medical facility in Athens.

The 54-year-old singer had gone to the facility for a scheduled medical treatment and suffered cardiac arrest before the treatment began, according to information reported so far. An ambulance was called and Mazonakis was taken to Elpis Hospital, where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Following the incident, police officers went to the facility to gather evidence and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The doctor who was there has also been called to give a statement to authorities.

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has also raised questions about whether the facility had the required authorization for the medical procedure Mazonakis was scheduled to undergo. Georgiadis said he had requested that the matter be investigated by the Athens Medical Association.

Authorities are now examining the circumstances of the incident, the procedure that had been scheduled and whether all applicable requirements had been met.

There is no publicly established evidence at this stage that the scheduled treatment or any medical procedure caused Mazonakis’ cardiac arrest. The cause and exact circumstances of his death remain under investigation.
