PM Mitsotakis: Greece recognised worldwide for its economic comeback

“The fact that Greece is currently recognised across Europe and around the world as an example of a country that has recovered from crisis is something we will guard very carefully,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday during a meeting with citizens in Arnaia, Halkidiki, adding:
“Building on this, we will ensure that every Greek woman and every Greek man has the right to look to the future with optimism. We can do much better. We learn from our mistakes. The only people who make no mistakes are those who do nothing. We have the courage to acknowledge our mistakes and correct them, and from there we move forward towards a better Greece. A Greece with greater confidence, a Greece whose voice will carry even more weight in Europe, a Greece that will be able to develop regional plans for every regional unit.”
Earlier in the day, Mitsotakis made a personal commitment to ensure further financial support for the fishing sector, during a meeting with representatives of professional fishers in Arnaia, Halkidiki.
Addressing the representatives of the fishing sector, Mitsotakis acknowledged the pressures facing the primary sector, stressing the government’s determination to take meaningful action. “We will do everything we can to provide you with substantial financial support, so that you can continue doing what you do on competitive terms,” the prime minister said, adding:
“We are going through a period of significant economic pressures for all sectors. However, I fully recognise that the fishing sector deserves greater support from the state. We have already made some announcements; we will see what more we can do. I will personally take up the issue. I hope that very soon, within the next few days, we will be able to provide more specific details.”
Referring to the outcome of his talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Mitsotakis stressed that the discussions had reaffirmed the depth of Greek-U.S. relations, as well as Greece’s pivotal role as a pillar of stability and progress in the wider region.
Concluding, the prime minister stressed the government’s commitment to contiually improve: “We learn from our mistakes; the only people who make no mistakes are those who do nothing. We are moving forward towards a better Greece.”
