Greek Australians raise money to help Greece via fire appeals

Greek Australians dug deep into their pockets despite COVID-19 and the financial difficulties which the Pandemic has brought on the community.

In just over a week, the fire appeal to raise money after wildfires swept through the country has reached half a million dollars and rising.

The radio appeal by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia on 3XY last Saturday gathered $350,000, and the Archdiocese has raised more than $450,000 up until now despite the fact that churches remain shut due to COVID-19.

Those wishing to contribute to the Fire Appeal can do so on the Archdiocese’s gofundme.com platform via the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia consolidated trust Western Australia (BSB: 082 – 057 and account number : 126932006). Meanwile, the Greek Community of Melbourne has gathered the support of groups from around the community but have yet to release the amount which has been raised. Those who wish to support the Fire Appeal can do so via https://gofund.me/e071edf0 at the Greek Community – (Greek Fires) account (BSB: 063 023, and account number 1042 1568).

The Greek Community of NSW has also opened a Delphi Bank account for people to offer money for those devastated by the fires in Greece. Those who wish to support the cause can do so by depositing into ‘The Greek Orthodox Community of NSW Ltd – Greek Fire Victims Appeal 2021’ account (BSB: 941200, Account number: 200637044).
