Greece has taken a significant step towards the safe, responsible and innovative deployment of artificial intelligence, as the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence has launched a public electronic consultation on draft legislation implementing the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act.

The draft law was put to public consultation on Sunday, 21 June 2026.

The consultation process invites citizens, social partners, scientific bodies, businesses and all interested stakeholders to submit proposals and comments aimed at improving the provisions of the bill. The consultation is scheduled to conclude on Monday, 6 July 2026 at 09:00, with further information available through the relevant OpenGov platform.

National framework for AI Act implementation

The main objective of the draft law is the full incorporation and implementation of the EU AI Act into Greek law, while at the same time establishing conditions to foster innovation, safeguard fundamental rights and enhance the competitiveness of the Greek economy.

The new regulatory framework aims to ensure that the development and use of artificial intelligence systems is conducted with transparency, accountability and respect for citizens’ rights, in line with European Union guidelines.

New national supervision mechanisms

The bill also provides for the establishment of a comprehensive national governance framework for artificial intelligence, including supervisory and enforcement mechanisms at a national level.
