 NEW YORK’S FIRST EVER ANCIENT DRAMA FESTIVAL TO CELEBRATE AND RECONCILE MODERN MAN WITH ANCIENT TEXT

NEW YORK, NY: The Leonidas-Eftychia Loizides Theatre Group organizes New York’s first ever Ancient Drama Festival is held under the auspices of the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture, The Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, and New Greek TV. Being held November 7th through 17^th, 2012 at the Hellenic Cultural Center, 27-09 Crescent Street, Astoria, NY 11105. Performances at 3pm and 7pm daily, with the exception of Andromache on November 14^th which will only have a 7pm performance. Tickets are $35 general admission; $25 for students and seniors, available via SmartTix.com (212-868-4444) and at the Box Office.

Oedipus the King (Nov 7 and 10) directed by Ludovic Coutaud, Prometheus Bound (Nov 8) directed by Francesco Andolfi, Hecuba (Nov 9) directed by Joyce Laoagan, Medea (Nov 11 and 16) directed by Kerry Logan, Alcestis (Nov 12) directed by Julia Peterson and Alesandra Nahodil, Euripides’ Electra (Nov 13) directed by Mary Tierney, Andromache (Nov 14 at 7pm; Nov 15 at 3pm & 7pm) directed by Emily Taplin Boyd, and Medea (Nov 17) directed by Brian Scannell.

This unique festival is a celebration of the theatre community and citizen’s exploration to reconcile the relationship between today’s artist and audience with the ancient texts. It will become an important showcase for directors, theatre groups, and performers on the local and (as we expand and grow) the international level. The Festival will feature an exceptional collection of the boldest, brightest theatre artists in NYC as they immerse themselves in the great works of Euripides, Sophocles, and Aeschylus!

The Leonidas-Eftychia Loizides Theatre Group (loizidis.com) in conjunction with LeonidasEftychia Inc are organizing the festival and have produced three years of successful runs at Off-Broadway theatres in New York: Aeschylus’s Oresteia (2010) and Euripides’ Iphigenia in Tauris (2011), and Euripides’ Helen, which have toured the US, Canada and Europe.
