Three new METRO stations in Athens

Athenians and those visiting the port of Piraeus will have three new stations available as of today, Monday 10 October, as the much anticipated extension of Attica’s subway system begins service.

The biggest and most important station of the three is located at the port or Piraeus, one of Greece’s busiest locations, providing a direct connection to Athens International Airport.

The direct route from the port to the airport journey will take 55 minutes, a significant improvement from the detours and time the trip required previously.

Another station will open at the Piraeus Municipal Theatre, one of the city’s most central spots, while the third is located at Maniatika in the neighbourhood of Agia Sofia.

The three new stations will serve an estimated 132,000 commuters a day.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will officially inaugurate the extension at 11am (Greece time) at Piraeus’ Dimotiko Theatro (Municipal Theatre) station, the new Line 3 terminus.

Each day, the first trains will be depart from Dimotiko Theatro at 5.30am with the last trains departing at 11.59 pm for Sunday through Thursday and at 1.06am on Friday and Saturday nights.
