Interior Ministry releases practical information for voters

The Interior Ministry on Friday released basic information for voters in Sunday’s national elections.

Information is also available in English on its site, at https://www.ypes.gr/en/elections/national-elections/parliamentary-elections/information-for-the-voters.

All Greek citizens aged 17 or over are entitled to vote, unless their rights have been deprived. Voting is mandatory unless a citizen is over 70 years of age or living abroad.

Voting centers will be open from 07:00 to 19:00.

Information on where a voter is casting their ballot can be found through the Interior Ministry’s site https://www.ypes.gr/ and the link “Mathe pou psifizeis” (Learn where you’re voting; the site is in Greek only). Voters may also call the Ministry at 213-1361500 and 213-1313800 on a 24-hour basis, both Saturday and Sunday.

An ID will be required once the election officials locate the voter’s name on electoral rolls – the Greek police ID, a passport, a driver’s license, or a personal health booklet of all insurance funds. A digital ID (throughhttps://wallet.gov.grVoters https://wallet.gov.grVoters) is also acceptable. Voters are handed a set of ballots, they go into the curtained booth, select the ballot they want, use a cross (+) to mark their ballots on the left or right side of a name (it is invalidated if on both sides), then place it in the envelope given, and seal it, dropping it in the ballot box and getting their ID returned.

Voters with disabilities will be given priority in waiting queues, while they may be accompanied by one person or the local elections official.

Greece has 59 voting districts. The number of crosses a voter can write is limited depending on the region.

Results of voting are reported live on the Interior Ministry’s site (https://ekloges.ypes.gr) for every voting center. Parties must collect a minimum of 3% of the total votes to gain a seat in Parliament.
