The Athens International Airport is among the most successful airports in Europe, achieving top performance in service quality, customer experience, and sustainability. Over the course of the past 25 years, the Athens airport has not only withstood successive international and domestic crises, but has also managed to turn disruptions into a driver of growth.
As highlighted at the “25th Airline Marketing Workshop”, the Athens airport – handling 34 million passengers in 2025, with links to 55 countries, 174 destinations, and 70 airlines – is now entering its second 25-year cycle with a renewed strategic objective: growth with resilience and green transition.
The management and international partners of the airport reviewed the journey of the past 25 years and mapped out the challenges ahead.
George Kallimasias: Sustainability and resilience at the core of our strategy
The CEO of the airport, George Kallimasias, emphasized that sustainability and resilience lie at the core of the airport’s strategy. “In recent years, we have focused on resilience and, through a series of partnerships and targeted strategies, we are continuously seeking improvement. At present, the challenges arising from geopolitical factors are evident, with fuel prices, for example, creating pressures and implications; however, we remain optimistic that conditions will stabilize. We are called upon to address these challenges with discipline and readiness, always prioritizing the passenger experience. We remain optimistic, but also prepared, disciplined, and ready,” he stated.
